The real trick would be to get society into clothes that don't require dry cleaning.Dry cleaning is not a sustainable idea.People in suits have screwed up the planet thru greed.
Using recycled paper hangars is not the best solution to the problem of hangars breeding in your closet. Far better to use limited recycled pulp resources to manufacture high quality copy and text papers. Here's why.
The competition for pulp made of 100 percent post consumer waste (PCW), which is required to manufacture 100 percent PCW recycled paper, is high. There is not enough to meet demand now, and the recycled paper industry is growing. Plus, every time you recycle paper, the fibers in the paper get shorter, meaning you get lower and lower returns on the pulp.
To get a genuine feel-good moment when you pick up your dry cleaning, patronize cleaners that take your wire hangers back and re-use them. Those same cleaners may also take back the plastic film they cover your clothing with to protect it on the ride home. Check it out.
This is a great first step in an industry that creates so much waste and uses so many chemicals. As someone who lives in NYC, I am going to be on the lookout for EcoHangers the next time I visit the local dry cleaners!
Sounds great. But what about the energy used to make them, clean the clothes, drive to and from the dry cleaner. Let alone the chemicals and by products of the whole industry.
Great idea and i'm all for it but the depth of the change that america(and world) has to go throught to be truelly "green" is quite extensive.
