The March 2009 “Don’t Blow the Bulb” competition, sponsored by Stout@Hand, pitted halls against each other in finding the simplest and best ways to reduce energy consumption. The hall with the largest percentage decrease in electricity usage received a pizza party during finals week. The goal was to lower energy use and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, while also saving energy and money. The student residents of CKTO Hall won the competition for reducing their energy consumption by nearly 10 percent. UW-Stout Housing won third place in the Central Association of College and University Business Officers 2009 Best Practices Awards competition for this event.
